What you will bedoing:
In this role, you willlead the design anddelivery of communications and audio systems for naval vessels,defining system requirements and engineering standards to developeffective solutions for complex submarine environments.You will produce technical documentation, develop testing protocolsand support installation and commissioning activities. You willanalyse test results,conduct technical studies to validate system performance, andcollaborate with engineering and project teams on cost estimation,risk assessments and mitigation strategies, while supportingFactory Acceptance Testing to ensure equipment quality beforeinstallation.
Coreduties:
- Lead the design and integrationof communications and audio systems across submarine platforms,defining system requirements, architecture and engineeringstandards to deliver robust and effective technicalsolutions.- Produce high-quality technicaldocumentation including system specifications, engineeringcalculations, design reports and user documentation, demonstratingstrong technical writing and documentation capability.
- Define and support system testing protocols, includinginstallation, commissioning and dockside activities, ensuringsystems meet required operational performance, safety andreliability standards.- Analyse, interpret and presentqualification and test results to internal stakeholders andcustomers, ensuring compliance with defined technical requirementsand operational expectations.- Conducttechnical studies, verification and validation activities toconfirm that system designs meet engineering specifications andoperational needs.- Contribute technicalexpertise to engineering and project teams, supporting costestimation, technical risk assessments and mitigation strategiesfor complexcommunications solutions.- Support FactoryAcceptance Testing (FAT) of supplier equipment when required,ensuring system performance and quality prior to delivery andinstallation.- Hold a BEng/BSc or MEng/MSc in arelevant discipline (e.g. Communications, Electrical,Telecommunications, Electronic or Audio Engineering) or equivalentexperience, with provensystem or equipment design experience and expertise in areas such as VoIP,PBX systems, acoustic modelling, radio or safety-criticalcommunications systems; CEng and defence or marine standardsknowledge desirable.
The Submarine CommunicationsTeam:
As a Principal Engineer –Communications, you will collaborate with the internalcommunications design team to undertake a variety of designactivities related to data networks, communication systems andassociated equipment for submarine platforms.
This role offers excellent exposure across theorganisation, providing opportunities to engage with stakeholdersat multiple levels. It also provides strong professional developmentprospects, enabling progression toward senior technical roles suchas Consultant Engineer or into engineering leadership pathways. Relocationsupport may be available for submarine roles, subject toeligibility criteria.
