Project Details

The successful candidate will support the commercial delivery of major engineering and construction commissions across the UK, typically within the infrastructure, nuclear and oil and gas sectors.

Projects are likely to include complex engineering works, utilities, industrial facilities and other high-value construction programmes where robust cost control, contract administration and commercial reporting are essential.

Responsibilities and Duties

This Senior Quantity Surveyor role will suit a commercially astute candidate with strong pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying experience on complex engineering and construction projects.

The role will involve working closely with project teams and client stakeholders to help deliver successful commercial outcomes and provide more senior commercial support across commissions.

1. Prepare and review tender and contract documents
2. Analyse tender returns and commercial submissions
3. Provide pre-contract and post-contract commercial support across live projects
4. Administer contracts in line with agreed procedures
5. Manage cost forecasting, cost reporting, change control and value management
6. Review contractor interim applications for payment and undertake assessment
7. Support the agreement of variations, compensation events and claims
8. Assist with and help drive the completion and agreement of final accounts
9. Help meet internal governance, audit and reporting requirements
10. Support risk management and value improvement activities
11. Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary delivery teams and client representatives
12. Provide guidance and support to less experienced commercial team members where required

Desired Skills and Experience

This employer is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong technical grounding and proven experience in quantity surveying and commercial management within the infrastructure and engineering sectors.

13. Strong experience in quantity surveying
14. Experience working as part of a commercial team on infrastructure, nuclear, oil and gas or similar projects
15. Strong understanding of pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying responsibilities
16. Experience supporting procurement and administration of NEC3 or NEC4 contracts
17. Good commercial reporting, cost control and contract administration skills
18. Strong communication skills and the ability to work with multi-disciplined teams
19. Good stakeholder management and client-facing skills
20. A proactive attitude and the ability to work with a good degree of autonomy
21. Experience of contract management systems such as CEMAR would be advantageous
22. MRICS status or progression towards chartership would be beneficial

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

23. Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related subject
24. Chartered status with the RICS would be advantageous, although strong support towards this can be provided
25. A full UK driving licence may be beneficial depending on project travel requirements
26. Right to work in the UK is essential
