About the role

The Department of Social Policy and Intervention is seeking a Research Assistant to join an interdisciplinary research group and be responsible for supporting research on projects related to violence against children and women, health inequalities, and child and adolescent health. The post holder will lead and contribute to the following types of research: systematic reviews (a living systematic review and evidence gap map on what works to prevent childhood sexual violence), quantitative analyses of survey (DHS, MICS, VACS) and cohort data, content and text analyses of policies and programmes. The post holder will have the responsibility for overseeing and conducting day-to-day research tasks and analyses on projects related to violence and child health, reporting directly to the DR Amiya Bhatia.

This role includes research assistant work such as handling and analysis of quantitative and mixed-methods data from pre-post and retrospective surveys, development of study protocols and survey design, reviewing manuscripts, drafting initial documents, compiling papers, literature reviewing, and development of an interactive dashboard to visualise findings. We are looking for someone with understanding of public health research designs, in particular longitudinal surveys, randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews/meta-analyses; and skills in data cleaning and management, data analysis, data visualisation, and academic writing for manuscripts, reports and research-dissemination materials. The role will involve regular communication with research investigators, postdoctoral researchers, students, and project management team.

About you

You will have a Master’s degree (MA, MPH, MSc) in public health or a relevant field, as well as relevant experience, such as analysing nationally representative survey or cohort data on violence or other child health outcomes, experience creating data dashboards to disseminate quantitative or mixed methods research, or systematic reviews, and experience conducting systematic or scoping reviews on violence, child protection, and child and adolescent health outcomes. You will have excellent communication skills, including presentation of research findings, and have experiencing coding in R and/or Stata and data visualisation.

It is desirable for you to have demonstrated working in a research team and contributing ideas for new research projects. It is also desirable that you will be working towards a doctorate in a specialist discipline and have experience contributing to or leading research publications.
