Senior SuDS Drainage Engineer
We are seeking to appoint a Senior SuDS Drainage Engineer to strengthen our Asset Planning and Solutions Practice. The role involves leading and shaping dialogue and policy in green‑blue infrastructure and guiding junior engineers.
Key Projects
* Urban Realm Projects
* Active Travel Routes
* Drainage Design and SuDS for new developments
* Flooding assessment of existing infrastructure and recommendations for repair, replacement or alternative measures
* Assessment of existing infrastructure and upgrades to adoptable/vestable standard
* Retrofit schemes
* Drainage Impact Assessments for existing infrastructure
Responsibilities
* Lead and contribute to the delivery of engineering projects from inception to handover, within budget and deadlines.
* Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary UK and international teams for successful delivery.
* Ensure quality of project work meets agreed standards and specifications.
* Be client‑focused, develop good working relationships, and propose best‑value technical solutions.
* Liaise with and support other multidisciplinary teams, Project Managers and Directors across the UK and international markets.
* Act as a mentor to other team members.
* Commit to Health and Safety and demonstrate knowledge of CDM requirements.
* Lead and contribute to digital engineering initiatives and innovative advances in water sector solutions.
Qualifications
To be considered, you must be degree‑qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a relevant subject area with experience in the water industry.
Essential
* Previous consultancy experience.
* Demonstrable experience in surface water management and drainage design or water engineering.
* Technical experience in surface water management, drainage, water engineering, or design environment.
* Experience in one or more of the following areas: Development drainage – surface water and foul, SuDS design, Highway drainage.
* Familiarity with drainage modelling software (MicroDrainage or Causeway Flow) and hydraulic modelling software (InfoWorks ICM).
* Experience with design software relating to SWM, civil and water engineering.
* Experience in quality assurance, ensuring services meet required standards.
* Proven track record of collaborative project delivery.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with stakeholders, both technical and non‑technical.
Advantageous
* Understanding of relevant legislation.
* Other software capabilities such as Civil 3D or GIS.
* Knowledge of statutory consents, application for connections/discharge consents, planning approvals and assessments.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM (or working towards chartership).
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of current design codes and guidance documents.
