Overview
Operations Manager role at ForFarmers. Contract: Permanent. Hours: Full time 37.5 hours Monday - Friday. Location: Selby. Reporting to: Regional Operations Manager.
The Operations Manager is functionally responsible for cost, output, quality, service, health and safety, environmental and legal compliance, mill performance, logistics and customer service. The successful candidate will work with the Operations Director to produce a business plan for manufacturing and logistics to achieve agreed objectives. You will motivate and shape a high performing site leadership team to drive results and engage staff with the strategic vision of the site and the wider business. You will ensure that the mill and logistics operate within current legislation, compliance and company procedures including Health and Safety, Environmental and Energy.
Your Responsibilities
* Business Unit Plan: Produce a Business Plan to ensure all departments understand objectives and tasks to be achieved; address cross functional issues such as logistics, order lead time, late orders, load size, CSD and credit control issues; use all available resources (operations, engineering, transport, sales, administration, and finance) to achieve the Business Plan and develop cross functional relationships; detail maintenance and capital spend in the Business Plan (replacement or new technology) in line with the budget; agree a maintenance plan to keep the mill to company standards.
* Inventory: Ensure raw materials are used in accordance with formulations; manage finished product inventory to avoid stock loss and devaluation; minimise working capital by controlling stock levels within targets.
* Commercial: Achieve EBITDA targets; facilitate liaison between sales, manufacturing, CSD and logistics for cost-effective solutions aligned with customer service; provide feedback to Raw Material and Formulation on quality, performance and delivery; ensure raw material planning avoids stockouts; manage resource deployment, expenses and costs in line with budget; agree changes in manufacturing and logistics strategy with the Operations Director; oversee capital expenditure within budget and target performance.
* People Management: Establish a training and development programme for direct subordinates; manage, motivate and develop employees to achieve personal and business objectives; plan succession for key personnel; ensure appropriate staffing levels and monitor absence.
* Health, Safety & Environment: Promote a safety-first culture; ensure adherence to company procedures and statutory requirements; work with the Operations Director to plan, train, supervise, consult, investigate and prevent incidents; manage site environmental permits and ISO14001/ISO50001 compliance; encourage ongoing health and safety improvements and near-miss reporting.
* Feed Legislation: Conduct audits regularly to ensure compliance with UFAS standards and relevant Feed legislation.
* Public Relations: Maintain ForFarmers brand image within manufacturing, stay in contact with key accounts and local influencers (statutory bodies, industry publications, etc.).

* Experience in a similar quality environment/previous role
* Affinity with the business and markets

* IT literate; ability to motivate and translate strategy into action
* Strong communication, collaboration and influencing skills

* Self-motivated and confident to challenge; commercial and analytical mindset
* Excellent organisational skills
