SEND Sensory and Physical Support Service

Advisory Teacher for Children and Young People with a Vision Impairment (QTVI)

Ref: 000808

Contract: Permanent

Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR 2a or 2b dependent upon qualifications and experience

Hours: 22.5 per week (0.7)

Shortlisting & Interview Dates: TBC.

Role Overview:

* To provide teaching, support and advice to children and young people (CYP), schools, families and other agencies with respect to CYP with a vision impairment.
* To promote and support the achievement of all children through work with officers, agencies, schools, families and CYP where vision impairment is a factor.
* To participate as a team member in the operation, promotion, evaluation and development of the Sensory and Physical Support Service and its provision for CYP with sensory impairment within the wider SEND team.

Key Responsibilities:

* To work with identified CYP to help promote inclusion and to overcome barriers to learning as a result of their vision impairment.
* To work collaboratively with service staff, school staff, families, pupils and other professionals.
* To deliver and facilitate effective training and development of staff in schools and other agencies to raise awareness and skills for supporting pupils with a vision impairment.
* To plan and deliver interventions for children with a variety of different learning needs and styles.

Key Requirements:

* Experienced teacher who holds the ‘Qualified Teacher for Children and Young People with a Vision Impairment’ mandatory qualification or who is willing to train and qualify within 3 years of appointment.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with which to build and maintain effective relationships with all CYP, families and professionals.
* Sound knowledge, skills and direct experience of working with CYP with a vision impairment.
* Grade 1 or grade 2 braille qualification or the willingness to attain.
* The use of a car is necessary to work in settings throughout the borough.
