Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides general nursing care to individuals in the Day Habilitation Program by performing the following duties:
* Assist in coordination of medical services with each recipient’s primary care physician and/or medical clinic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Administer prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
2. Observe individuals, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify healthcare supervisor, program director, guardian, residential provider, and if necessary, PCP of individual’s condition and reactions.
3. Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols.
4. Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations and assess individuals' conditions.
5. Explain procedures and treatments to individuals to gain cooperation and understanding, minimizing apprehension.
6. Maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs of individuals.
7. Participate in department or program quality improvement activities.
8. Arrange orientation for newly hired staff regarding agency policies and procedures related to individual medical needs.
9. Participate in the Positive Behavior Support initiative and complete the Quality Behavior Curriculum.
10. Participate in RSP/Clinical Assessment process with the interdisciplinary team.
11. Responsible for monthly progress notes for each individual under supervision.
12. Maintain updated information on medications, side effects, diagnoses, physicals, immunizations, and orders.
Additional responsibilities include:
* Cooperate and interact professionally with co-workers, clients, volunteers, and funders.
* Adhere to agency safety standards and policies.
* Perform additional duties or substitute as required.
* Develop and provide services aligned with RTR’s philosophies.
Minimum Qualifications
* At least one year of related experience/training with the ID/DD population.
* Valid Nursing License with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
* Valid Driver’s License.
* Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and internet use.
* Successful completion of all mandated trainings.
* Willingness to authorize background checks (CORI, DPPC, DDS, etc.).
* Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily; accommodations possible for disabilities.
* Recent tuberculosis screening (within 12 months).
Additional Skills and Requirements
Fluency in English, with the ability to read, interpret, and write reports and procedures. Effective communication skills with individuals, families, staff, and community members.
Physical Demands
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, handling, reaching, and stooping. Occasional climbing or balancing. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Visual acuity required for close, distance, and peripheral vision, color perception, and focus adjustment.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to follow detailed instructions, both written and oral.
