Overview
Experienced Occupational Therapist - Stroke role at Hywel Dda University Health Board. This is a fixed term/secondment post for 12 months until 01/09/2026 due to maternity cover. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.
Responsibilities
* Deliver high quality, evidence based, customer focussed occupational therapy services to ensure a smooth transition from hospital to home and between acute and community care for the stroke pathway.
* Cover the entire stroke pathway from admission through to the development of early supported discharge.
* Work autonomously to manage and prioritise a diverse and unpredictable caseload within a multidisciplinary team including Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants.
* Apply a holistic approach to rehabilitation, including manual handling, education, cognitive, sensory, condition management and physical function.
* Maintain an excellent clinical grounding in stroke rehabilitation and complex manual handling, and stay informed of current issues affecting acute and community services.
* Support triage and allocation of cases, handover processes and relevant clinical discussions.
* Provide leadership and supervision, contribute to evaluation, audit and research as required, and support the learning and development of the team, students and yourself.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Band 6 Occupational Therapist with strong clinical grounding in stroke rehabilitation and complex manual handling.
* Advanced clinical knowledge, risk assessment skills and manual handling experience.
* Ability to work autonomously in a busy, pressurised environment and to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Commitment to the learning and development of the team, students and self.
* Some managerial responsibilities including PDR and supervision of staff, providing leadership and advice, developing clinical skills and contributing to evaluation, audit and research as required.
* Excellent time management and organisational skills to manage a complex caseload, support triage and allocation of cases, and guide clinical handovers and discussions.
Organisation / Team
Pembrokeshire Stroke Service provision is led by a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist and includes a multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants.
