About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Care Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a young female with complex health needs. You will be based within a supportive school environment, working alongside a multi-disciplinary team including teachers, therapists, and school nurses.
The young person we support has multiple diagnoses, including Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy, and is non-verbal with a visual impairment. Your role will be crucial in enabling them to engage fully in school life, ensuring they remain healthy, safe, and happy.
Key Responsibilities
* Clinical Care: Providing dedicated clinical care under the guidance of the school nursing team. This includes airway management (oral suctioning, nebulisers), monitoring breathing and oxygen saturations, and managing a gastrostomy for feeds and medication.
* Personal Care: Assisting with all aspects of personal hygiene, toileting, and pad changes with dignity and respect.
* Mobility & Positioning: Using hoists for safe transfers and frequent repositioning in a wheelchair or specialist equipment to ensure comfort and maintain skin integrity.
* Seizure Management: Monitoring for and responding to seizure activity in line with a personalised Epilepsy Care Plan.
* Communication: Understanding the individual\'s unique non-verbal communication style, including facial expressions, vocalisations, and eye-gazing. You will support them in using their communication aids.
* Engagement & Social Support: Encouraging and supporting participation in classroom activities and social interactions with peers.
Why Join This Team?
This is more than just a care role; it is an opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with an inspiring young person and become an integral part of their support network. You will play a direct role in enabling them to access education, develop their skills, and enjoy their interests.
Benefits
* Specialist Training: Comprehensive theoretical and practical training is provided to ensure you are fully competent and confident in all aspects of clinical care, including suction, ventilator monitoring, gastrostomy care, and emergency protocols.
* Career Development: Genuine opportunities for career progression and ongoing professional development.
* Supportive Team: You will be part of a wider team with ongoing support from our Office Team, Registered Managers, and dedicated Clinical Nurses.
* School Hours: Term-time working hours provide an excellent work-life balance.
* Weekly Pay via PAYE or Umbrella Schemes.
* Holiday Pay.
Requirements for the Role
We are looking for a patient, observant, and kind-hearted individual who is passionate about making a difference in a young person\'s life.
* A minimum of 6 months of professional UK Care experience is desirable but not essential. Full training will be provided.
* Paediatric or complex care experience is beneficial, but a willingness to learn is most important.
* Excellent communication skills and the patience to build a strong, understanding relationship with a non-verbal individual.
* The ability to follow detailed care plans and protocols meticulously.
* A proactive and observant nature, able to spot subtle changes in an individual\'s condition.
* To provide the correct compliance documents, including an updated Right to Work and a valid DBS certificate (we can assist with a new application).
