Job overview

An exciting B4 post is available within our dynamic and friendly CBACS team.
This is a chance to work within a highly specialist and pioneering service. You will have opportunity to work alongside qualified staff and independently to gain specialist clinical skills working with client’s who have spinal pathology requiring management in a spinal orthosis.

The post-holder will be delivering clinical and non- clinical care working in the acute inpatient areas across both BHRUT sites outpatient and community settings. The service seeks to provide customised care to client’s who require spinal orthosis management.

The role includes spinal navigation, manual handling guidance and acute rehab alongside ward colleagues; also, provision of outreach to other organisations as well as assisting orthotics with inpatients, outpatient clinics and in the community. The post-holder will support the qualified therapists in their Physiotherapy role, whilst contributing to the education of the multidisciplinary team and other individuals associated with patient care.

Main duties of the job

• To provide skilled routine and some non-routine, clinical and non-clinical support within CBACS as led by Band 8a Therapist and CBACS team. To provide appropriate cover to service in absence of qualified staff.

• To provide collar and brace aftercare to patients including skin care, hygiene and pad changes within clinic, community, and ward settings, in addition to hair washing and shaving to ensure patient remains compliant with the collar use.

• To liaise with medical professionals for clarification of medical information provided to aid efficient discharge planning and attend neuro surgical appointments/MDT to ensure patient’s full needs are met and that the patient and family fully understand all that’s been explained.

• To Liaise and incorporate family members into the care of patients.


• To work with patients allocated within CBACS and treat according to specific protocols and guidelines, monitoring patient progress and reporting back to the team. To liaise with medical professionals for clarification of medical information provided to aid efficient discharge planning.

• To work closely on a daily basis with the CBACS Senior Therapist for most interventions, but to take on independent tasks as delegated, working within service protocols: eg. leading the brace-care pathway including demonstrations of braces to care agencies and family members. Mostly this will be delivered within the clinic and community, but also involves ward work.

1. Good standard of general education, to G.C.S.E. level or equivalent

Expereince / Knowledge

4. Ability to communicate information (verbal, non-verbal and written) in an accurate, clear and logical manner

5. Clerical skills inc computer skills to ECDL level or equivalent, or the ability to work towards ECDL
