As a Road Safety Assistant, you will work in the Road Safety and Sustainable Travel team to deliver road safety education into schools. Your work helps reduce injuries to young people on our roads, encouraging walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling to and from school. You will make a difference to children and their families by promoting physical activity and healthier lifestyles while improving road safety and air quality outside schools.
Responsibilities
* Deliver road safety interventions to children aged 0‑18, presenting in school assemblies, classrooms and online.
* Book schools for interventions, ensure they have sufficient resources for campaigns and projects, and distribute resources to schools across South Gloucestershire.
* Act as a bridge between schools and other community groups and the Lead Road Safety Officer, assisting them to engage with road safety.
* Attend public road safety events, regional and national conferences and events to promote road safety and sustainable travel messages.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Hold a GCSE/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification, including maths and English at grade C/4 or above.
* Have experience of working in a similar service area or delivering training to school pupils and others in the community.
* Able to work alone and within a team to plan, organise and control work activities.
* Possess good communication skills to deal with children, young people and the public.
* Understanding of active travel behaviour change strategies and interventions is desirable.
Working Conditions
* Part‑time role, 38 weeks per year, term time only.
* Working pattern: Thursdays and Fridays, with flexibility initially to complete training.
* Must have a full and valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or alternative means of travel; travel throughout the authority and surrounding area is required.
* Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory.
* Salary will be prorated to hours worked.
