Job Overview

The post holder will provide operational management of Radiology services, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of high‑quality imaging across the RUH and associated community hospitals. This includes optimising the use of staff, equipment, and resources while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job

Operational Management

Lead the day‑to‑day operational running of Radiology services, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient‑centred service delivery
Maximise utilisation of imaging equipment and workforce to support timely and high‑quality service provision
Ensure resources are deployed effectively to meet service demands and performance targets

Quality and Service Improvement

Lead the Radiology quality programme across the RUH and community sites
Drive continuous quality improvement, supporting change management initiatives to enhance patient pathways, clinical standards, and service efficiency
Maintain a thorough understanding of imaging accreditation requirements and ensure compliance with relevant standards

Radiation Safety

Act as the overall Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for Radiology, ensuring the service meets regulatory obligations
Work closely with the Medical Physics team to maintain a safe radiation environment for patients, staff, and visitors
Promote best practice in radiation protection and ensure adherence to local rules and national legislation

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography
Post-graduate qualification in Leadership/Advanced Practice

Desirable criteria

Qualification in Service/Quality Improvement
Formal training in Radiation Protection

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

Significant post-registration radiographic experience
Experience of managing a Radiology department/modality

Desirable criteria

Knowledge of radiation protection legislation
Understanding of KPI's & other Radiology metrics
