Overview
An exciting opportunity with the Axess sexual health laboratory service for an Associate Practitioner/Laboratory Support Technician to support quality assurance, training and service provision across the Axess region.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure laboratory standards are maintained and provide training and day‑to‑day support to each Axess site.
* Perform routine and semi‑complex laboratory tests in Clinical Microbiology, focusing on detection and identification of common STI pathogens.
* Operate, maintain and troubleshoot automated analyzers to ensure accurate diagnostic output.
* Prepare and process patient samples in accordance with SOPs, maintaining timely turnaround times.
* Participate in internal and external quality assurance schemes, including UKAS, NEQAS and IQA/IQC procedures.
* Perform daily quality control checks, CAPA, and ensure adherence to accreditation standards.
* Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives, audits, service improvement projects and research activities.
* Supervise, organise and allocate work, train less experienced staff, and participate in shift work including Saturdays.
* Maintain knowledge of biosafety, COSHH and infection control policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
* HND or equivalent in Biomedical Science or a related field.
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently, organising and prioritising workload.
* Dextrous with good aseptic technique and fine pipetting skills.
* Strong concentration, written and verbal communication skills, and initiative.
* Computer skills and organisational abilities.
* Continuously update knowledge of clinical microbiology.
* Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and travel within Cheshire and Mersey.
* Minimum age 18.
