Salary: £52,238.76 - £69,651.68 Closing Date: Tuesday 17th February PURPOSE OF THE JOB: We're excited to share an excellent opportunity for a Simulator Junior Support Engineer to join our dynamic team. To play a critical role in the operation of the NATS Simulators, supporting incident and problem management and providing technical expertise, ensuring on-going service availability and performance of the Simulator systems. To work with Simulator stakeholders, with direction from Simulator Support Engineers, to operate, maintain and improve the simulator services managed by the Service Delivery Manager. This will include resolving incidents, planning and executing changes, improvements and resolving problems at the root cause. As a Junior Support Engineer, you'll support the day‑to‑day operation of our simulator environment across Windows and Linux platforms. You'll work within the Simulator Support Group, assisting with the build, configuration, management, and support of simulator hardware, software, and OS-level services. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Customer call management; logging, triage and resolving incidents Implementing fixes where a known solution or workaround exists. Managing Service Requests, including simulator configuration updates. Provision of Subject Matter Expertise to support Requests for Information and Change Assessments. Updating tickets and inform Service Desk and/or customer of progress. Performing planned work and maintenance on solutions, configuration changes, and release/deployments. Creation of Knowledge Articles covering known issues and communication of these to stakeholders. Initiating and supporting continual service improvement through identification of opportunities and ownership of activities to effect positive change. Conducting equipment installations, software configuration and deployment. Conduct post-deployment/installation sanity checks. Provision of Subject Matter Expertise to LTIP Projects and Service Groups to help plan and support simulator change activities. Produce and maintain simulator documentation to ensure alignment with the run-time simulator configurations. Act as a focal point to provide technical expertise for up to one simulator Perform regular Health Checks on simulator facilities to identify issues or improvement actions Work with the Simulator Support Team Leader to manage resourcing Support the Simulator Support Team Leader in identifying and implementing improvements to the simulator support processes. Support the Simulator Support Team Leader in maintaining the highest level of customer service AUTONOMY: Work with support on one or more assigned work packages, following all applicable processes to ensure they are delivered to the agreed quality, cost and schedule. Provide timely reporting to work-package leads and line management, highlighting issues, risks, successes and general progress updates JOB SCOPE: The post holder is part of a team that provides support to the NATS Simulator facilities, ensuring their integrity and readiness for customer activities. Operating within the ITIL Framework, the post holder will be responsible for following both incident management and problem management processes, ensuring that issues with the simulator facilities are addressed as effectively as possible. The post holder will also provide Subject Matter Expertise in the support of Service Design and Service Transition activities. This will include working with projects to ensure that updates or changes to simulator facilities are designed, planned and delivered with minimal unforeseen impact. The post holder will support Simulation Services in setting up for simulation activities; in particular by installing and configuring new software builds, and by creating circuit files that configure the simulation environments to the customer requirements. The post holder will be expected to do an appropriate amount of validation to confirm that the facilities are set up correctly for customer activities. It is expected that the post holder will have the ability to quickly develop relationships with customers, understand their needs and provide an excellent service. EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATION & SKILLS: The job holder is expected to hold, as a minimum, an HNC (or an equivalent qualification) in an Engineering related discipline and have relevant engineering experience. A good understanding of the software development lifecycle. A high-level understanding of both UNIX and Windows based operating systems. Experience in Air Traffic Control and a broad understanding of the components that make up the ATC platform, and the methods of operation employed to control aircraft is desirable. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrate good interpersonal and team-working skills. Ability to absorb large amounts of detailed technical and/or ATC information in short timescales. Demonstrate the ability to listen to any feedback on performance and apply that feedback proactively. Demonstrate the ability to produce concise and accurate documentation. Demonstrable ability to explain technical problems and requirements issues clearly to a variety of customers and organisations. Demonstrate a good understanding of the wider NATS business and be able to apply that knowledge within the scope of this role. Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills.
