Purpose and objectives of the role:
The Operative will play a crucial role in supporting the execution of various cleaning projects and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety protocols. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Operational Support:
* Assist in the execution of industrial cleaning projects, including tank cleaning, spill response, and surface decontamination.
* Operate specialised equipment such as pressure washers, vacuum trucks, and chemical cleaning systems.
* Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions to ensure efficient and safe project execution.
Hazardous Waste Handling:
* Assist in the identification, segregation, and packaging of hazardous waste materials for proper disposal.
* Ensure compliance with waste handling and transportation regulations, including labelling, manifesting, and record-keeping.
* Participate in spill response activities and emergency cleanup procedures as needed.
* Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to control expenses.
Safety Compliance:
* Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations to minimise risks and ensure a safe working environment.
* Conduct pre-task safety assessments and toolbox talks to communicate hazards and safety protocols to the team.
* Report any safety incidents, near misses, or hazards to the site supervisor or operations manager promptly.
Team Collaboration:
* Work collaboratively with the site supervisor and project team to achieve project goals and deadlines.
* Communicate effectively with colleagues to coordinate tasks, share information, and resolve issues as they arise.
* Support a positive and respectful work environment by demonstrating professionalism and teamwork.
Equipment Maintenance:
* Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment and vehicles to ensure proper functionality and safe operation.
* Report any equipment malfunctions or deficiencies to the operations manager for timely repairs.
* Maintain cleanliness and organisation of work areas, equipment, and tools.
Other:
* Collate and record all relevant data within Management System.
* Other duties deemed reasonable.
Qualifications:
* Prior experience in industrial cleaning, hazardous waste management, or related field preferred.
* Basic understanding of environmental regulations and safety practices.
* Ability to operate cleaning equipment and tools safely and effectively.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
* Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and in confined spaces.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
