The University of Southampton’s Department of Economics invites applications for a Professorship position. This recruitment follows the successful hiring in Autumn 2024 of two Lecturers, one Associate Professor, and two Professors, and is part of a major expansion aimed at strengthening our research, education, and knowledge exchange culture.
Our department is renowned for impactful research in migration, networks, education, crime, and inequality. We are leaders in macroeconomic, experimental, and econometric methods. The 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) rated 100% of our research environment and impact initiatives, with 93% of outputs rated as internationally excellent or above. We have secured prestigious grants from ESRC, Horizon 2020, and Norface, and contribute to large-scale funding initiatives like the ESRC Centre for Population Change and ESRC Connecting Generations.
The University of Southampton is ranked among the top 100 globally and is a UK top 15 research-intensive institution. We focus on themes like AI and Data Science, Sustainability and Resilience, Decarbonisation, and Engineering Better Health. The Department of Economics prioritizes expertise in applied economics (migration, industrial organization, labour, environmental, health economics), microeconometrics, financial econometrics, and data science.
Candidates should have an established reputation in Economics, demonstrated through publications and societal impact, with leadership qualities and a track record of securing research grants. The role involves designing, delivering, and engaging in innovative, research-led teaching.
