Role Overview
An established construction consultancy is seeking a Director (Designate) to shape, lead and grow its Building Surveying and Project Management functions. This is a senior leadership role requiring a strong blend of technical expertise, commercial acumen and strategic leadership.
The successful candidate will drive growth, strengthen service delivery and develop high-performing teams, while ensuring alignment with quality-led processes and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy
Lead and develop the Building Surveying function, expanding capability, improving technical expertise and building a pipeline of future leaders.
Build a strong team identity with a collaborative culture focused on performance and professional development.
Support senior leadership in practice management and business development.
Establish structured CPD programmes and sector initiatives to support clients and shape industry practice.
Client & Commercial Leadership
Lead client engagement and ensure high standards of service quality and delivery.
Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance client relationships and organisational value.
Represent the business externally through industry events, presentations and professional forums.
Technical Leadership
Provide senior technical support on contracts, procurement strategies, dispute avoidance and risk management.
Act as a recognised authority in contract administration and procurement.
Promote digital standards, ensuring delivery aligns with QMS and BIM processes.
Project Management Responsibilities General
Monitor performance against agreed KPIs and report regularly to senior leadership.
Maintain excellent communication with clients, contractors and stakeholders.
Ensure consistent approaches to BIM, digital delivery and document control across teams.
Procedures & Administration
Develop best practice templates, protocols and training in:
Specification writing
Contract drafting
Procurement
BIM workflows
Drive innovation through digital and AI solutions to enhance operational performance.
Pre-Contract Responsibilities
Lead mobilisation of new commissions with senior strategic oversight.
Implement consistent pre-contract processes aligned to QMS standards.
Support robust risk management and clarity of client scope through procurement and contracts.
Oversee preparation and review of templates, agreements and procurement documents.
Provide strategic guidance during procurement, negotiations and tendering.
Monitor performance and embed continuous improvement.
Post-Contract Responsibilities
Oversee project delivery to ensure consistent processes, documentation and reporting.
Ensure compliant administration of instructions, certificates and valuations.
Support proactive monitoring of progress, risk, quality and client engagement.
Lead evaluation of performance and lessons learned.
Promote positive, collaborative relationships with clients, contractors and consultants.

Experience (Minimum 5 Years PQE)

Coaching Project Managers to strengthen contract awareness and negotiation confidence.
Supporting professional development of Building Surveyors, Project Managers and graduates.
Enhancing organisational knowledge through case studies and digital knowledge systems.
Representing the business across the industry and promoting best practice.
