Job Description:
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Buildings Sustainability Project Manager to help the Diocese of Liverpool and its parishes unlock the full potential of their churches and halls, maximising social and financial value. This role is pivotal in transforming under-used church assets into vibrant, income-generating community spaces, so supporting mission and ministry.
You will lead on identifying, developing, and delivering income-generating opportunities across the churches and halls of the diocese.
This is a creative leadership role to develop a new workstream in the Diocese of Liverpool. The main purposes of this role are:
* Identify and develop opportunities to increase midweek usage of church buildings and halls
* Build and maintain partnerships with public bodies and other organisations to support shared use and income generation
* Lead the marketing, pricing, and contracting of lettable spaces
* Oversee minor refurbishment and reordering projects to make spaces lettable and attractive to potential users
* Guide parishes through the faculty approval process and other internal procedures
* Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with diocesan goals.
Key responsibilities and tasks include:
* Develop a process of systematic engagement with all parishes to generate new income from assets. [This is part of a wider review process with parishes that also includes mission and stewardship reviews – the Mission Planning and Review (MPR) process]
* Identify spaces to rent and most appropriate type of hire (such as long-term formal tenancies, block hires, spot hires, etc.)
* Assess and improve the appeal of spaces to potential hirers
* Gather data to appraise operating costs to inform pricing strategies
* Develop use of social media and other channels to market/advertise spaces
* Support parish teams to review contract agreements and appropriate charges
* Ensure that robust processes and KPIs are in place for all the elements of work and that timely reports are made
* Develop and manage relationships with small numbers of service providers: solicitors, building surveyors, designers, building contractors, AV contractors.
* Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders: -
o Team Rectors and Parish Vicars
o Office holders & PCCs of Parishes
o Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) for Faculty Planning
o Net Zero team
* Nurture and hold key partnership relationships with public bodies/organisations to generate shared use/income
* Project manage development of buildings to improve income generation, working with the fundraising team as necessary
* Project manage the development of local resources to deliver income generation in the medium term
* Staff management of one team member (new appointment as workload increases
