Job Summary
At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. As a Manufacturing Engineer you will provide engineering capability to operational programmes, enabling zero‑defect projects and delivering robust, capable manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
* Be responsible for the implementation of materials & process methods and solutions, from original concept through to production.
* Have strong project management skills and manage larger complex, or multiple smaller projects/mods from programme or customer approval through introduction to production and delivery to customer and validate all stakeholder relationships.
* Deploy these processes with a high degree of process capability utilizing the GKN standard Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tool suite to demonstrate as such.
* Confer with inter‑departmental personnel to implement internal and external change request, resolve system errors, and provide technical feedback to customer.
* Be responsible for technical support of manufacturing development and integration for production. Resolve issues pertaining to vendor quality.
* Create a Change implementation plan for every Change being embodied to track progress, ensuring mods are delivered on customer agreed POE, within scope and within agreed costs.
* Provide specialist knowledge to production activities with the ultimate goal of improving efficiency, product quality and the reduction of non‑conforming parts.
* Exemplify a safety‑first mind‑set and ensuring compliance with the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards.
* Be responsible for the development of technical solutions to complex problems within GKN Aerospace, our customers and suppliers.
* Deliver technical support of manufacturing process development and integration for production.
* Utilise root cause analysis, preventative and corrective action to reduce/eliminate non‑conformances.
* Maintain positive, team relationships with internal and external customers, as well as co‑workers.
* Continuously improve production processes by implementing Lean initiatives.
What You’ll Bring
Essential
* HNC/HND in Manufacturing Engineering or relevant experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
* Ability to read and understand engineering manufacturing drawings and technical documents.
* Experience using IT packages such as MS Office.
* Must be flexible and able to handle multiple and changing priorities.
Desirable
* Knowledge of, and ability to use and implement LEAN tools and techniques.
* Experience using SAP or similar business software.
* CMII Qualified.
* BSc in Engineering.
* Prince2 or equivalent Project Management qualification.
