Role Description
The Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, and maintenance of company equipment at customer sites. The role ensures systems are delivered on time, operate safely, and perform to specification, while providing a high level of technical support and customer service.
This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing role requiring strong technical capability, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently in the field.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, commission, and hand over equipment and systems at customer sites in line with technical specifications and project plans
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive service visits
* Diagnose faults and perform repairs efficiently to minimise downtime
* Provide on‑site technical support and guidance to customers and end users
* Conduct system testing, calibration, and performance validation
* Complete service and commissioning documentation accurately and on time
* Liaise with engineering, project, and sales teams to support successful project delivery
* Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health & safety regulations and company procedures
* Identify opportunities for improvements, upgrades, or additional services
* Participate in on‑call or emergency support rotas where required
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience in a service, commissioning, or field engineering role
* Strong technical background (electrical, mechanical, automation, controls, or similar)
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and manuals
* Excellent fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
* Comfortable working independently and managing your own workload
* Good communication and customer‑facing skills
* Full UK driving licence
* Experience commissioning complex systems or bespoke equipment
* Knowledge of PLCs, control systems, or software commissioning
* Industry‑specific experience (e.g. manufacturing, building services, energy, process equipment)
* Formal commissioning or health & safety training (e.g. IPAF, ECS, CSCS)
