Job Summary

The successful candidate will work alongside community-based colleagues to provide assessment and psychiatric treatment for Older Adults within the Fenland community across a largely rural area. The population of over 65’s in the Fenland area is approximately 25,000 out of 113,064. In its entirety, the OPMH team had 912 referrals in the past 12 months. On average, the Fenland OPMH service receives 76 referrals per month, with approx. 9 for psychiatry outpatient and 36 for memory assessment.

Salary £109,725 - £145,478 per annum plus a £40,000 Recruitment and Retention Premium (T&Cs apply).


Main Duties


Clinical

* Lead the multidisciplinary team in providing excellent psychiatric care.
* Provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans.
* Lead weekly MDT meetings and ensure prompt reviews of acutely unwell patients.
* Work closely with the CRHTT OP, community teams and liaison services as patients move between these teams.
* Deliver evidence-based treatments.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records using our EPR, SystmOne.
* Partake in cross-cover for consultant colleagues for annual & study leave to maintain continuous service.


Leadership

* Provide clinical leadership for the Older Peoples Services during a time of considerable transition.
* The Trust will support the involvement of the consultant body in regional and national groups, subject to discussion and approval with the medical director and, as necessary, the chief executive officer.


Teaching/Education

Contribute to the psychiatry post-graduate teaching programme, undergraduate teaching for medical students, and training/support of staff within the wider MDT. Mentor new consultants and support CPD activities, including study leave budgets. Friday morning CPD sessions are held via Teams, and Friday afternoon activities include journal club, case discussions, and management meetings. Encourage educational supervision of trainees.


Administration

* Work with CPFT to achieve agreed performance targets.
* Contribute to the collection and monitoring of clinical outcome data for service development and commissioning purposes.
* Participate in audit and the administration of patient information systems, ensuring data entry follows service policies and guidance.
* Work in accordance with Trust and service policies and guidelines.


Management

* Work with the Service Manager and Clinical Director to contribute to the management of Older Peoples Acute Care System.
* Contribute to planning and development of Older Peoples Mental Health Services and the wider community service.
* Attend meetings relevant to the interests of the service.


Research

The post-holder is expected to support the broader CPFT research endeavour where possible, with potential funding for research projects. Candidates may become a principal investigator for clinical trials in dementia and other late life mental health disorders or pursue other research interests.


Clinical Governance

Be aware of, and act within, locally and nationally agreed protocols and actively involve in clinical governance within the service.


On-call

* May opt to take part in the consultant out-of-hours on call rota (approx. 1:25 Category A). Support comes from core and senior trainees. On-call is remunerated at 3% subject to current monitoring.


Other Duties

* Carrying out other duties as may be assigned with Trust agreement. No unreasonable withholding of agreement to reasonable proposed changes.


Accountability

Accountability to the clinical director (currently Dr Anna Forrest) and to the Trust Board through the Trust Executive Medical Director.


Job Planning & Appraisal

Consultants are required to participate in revalidation and annual appraisal under the supervision of the Medical Director and Responsible Officer. Access to job planning and appraisal software is provided.


Person Specification


Essential


Education / Qualifications

* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* MRCPsych (or equivalent).
* S12/ AC approved.
* CCT in relevant specialty. Candidates with a CESR or appropriate experience will be considered equally.
* Valid UK driving licence and willingness to drive.


Desirable

* MD or PhD.
* Diploma in geriatric medicine.
* Postgraduate qualification in medical education.


Experience

* Experience of working in a community-facing team.
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Old Age.
* Experience of research and service development.


Characteristics

* Ability to work in a team.
* Understanding of the context of the service within the wider NHS developments and experience of developing services in changing environments and tight budgets.
* Effective teachers and trainers able to guide their own continuing education and training.
