Position:
An opportunity has arisen for a Bank Peritoneal Dialysis Support Worker within NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
To work as part of a small team of specialist nurses who are responsible for the overall nursing assessment, training, implementation and evaluation of care for patients on Peritoneal Dialysis within Ayrshire &Arran. The support worker will be part of the team of support workers providing assisted Peritoneal Dialysis.
Our aim is to ensure patients and their families are physically, emotionally and psychologically supported to enable them to dialyse safely at home. The post holder will work autonomously but under the direction of the Lead Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse Specialist.
Essentially you must possess excellent communication and organisational skills and have a keen interest in assisting patients to dialyse in their own home. You must have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential:
1. Previous training in the practical and theoretical aspects of Peritoneal Dialysis.
2. Competent in the set-up and problem solving of Homechoice Claria Machine.
3. Car driver with current and valid driving licence.
4. Well- developed written, IT and verbal communication skills.
5. Knowledge and skills in undertaking PD therapy tests and investigations.
6. Ability to organise and manage time efficiently.
Desirable
7. Knowledge and understanding of patient education and renal replacement therapy options.
8. Knowledge and understanding of the different regimes and fluids used on PD cycler machines.
9. An awareness of the Sharesource System to manage and monitor PD patients.
10. Ability to obtain blood samples.
