About the Opportunity

Amentum is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Piping Engineer to join our Energy business. The department is supporting UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation and supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work covers New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, with demand across the nuclear sector.

The successful candidate should be highly motivated, proactive, and eager to develop their technical skills. Key to success will be your ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple locations.

This role requires experience in pipe engineering within civil, nuclear, or other highly regulated industries, with familiarity with working in regulated environments and providing engineering support. You will deliver work to high HSSE standards, ensuring compliance with HSSE regulations.

The role offers diverse work opportunities, including reviewing design and design substantiation, producing calculations and reports, advising on technical issues, and supporting refurbishment/modification projects to extend plant and equipment life. You will liaise with other engineering departments to ensure consistency in pipe simulation practices and verification.

Your responsibility will be to deliver complex engineering solutions on time, within budget, and to quality standards across projects of varying sizes.

This position is based at one of our Energy offices (Newcastle, Warrington, Gloucester, Bristol, or Knutsford). We support flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

* Work within project delivery teams throughout the project lifecycle, from bid generation to installation and commissioning.
* Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-profile projects.
* Own technical challenges, develop strategies, and implement solutions with stakeholder engagement.
* Produce and review design deliverables such as assumptions, specifications, calculations, and reports.
* Apply standards and regulations related to mechanical engineering and understand practical implementation aspects.
* Simplify complex problems and foster valuable relationships.

Qualifications and Skills

* Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer or experienced engineer via apprenticeship with relevant expertise.
* Chartered or Incorporated member (or working towards) of IMechE or equivalent.
* Knowledge of standards and regulations in mechanical engineering.
* Experience in Pressure Vessels, Pipework (ASME code), lifting, and crane codes.
* Knowledge of piping simulation software (Caesar II or AutoPIPE) is advantageous; training available.
* Understanding of civil nuclear plant systems and related design guidelines is a plus.
* Self-motivated, collaborative, innovative, and problem-solving mindset.

Our Culture

Our values are safety, integrity, inclusion, and diversity. We prioritize people, supporting mental health and fostering a sense of belonging. We embed inclusion and diversity in all we do, accepting individuals regardless of background. We partner with VERCIDA and are a Disability Confident employer, welcoming applications from flexible working candidates and those needing adjustments during recruitment.
