This is a unique role established to reflect the changing complex health needs of children in the area developed from an established Respire service based in Hambleton and Richmondshire. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in the Hambleton and Richmondshire Team.
This post is to work with children and young people with additional complex airway needs across Middlesborough and Redcar locality. Specifically, children and young people with tracheostomy needs, to allow them equitable access to nursery, school and other settings respite.
The post holder will support children and young people with complex airways predominantly in mainstream community settings across Middlesbrough and Redcar.
The post holder will work in partnership with the children and young persons designated CCN and medical team to design, plan and deliver relevant theory and competency-based skills training to parents, carers and/or statutory agents.
The Respire team deliver care in a range of community settings, home, school, special schools, respite provision across the Middlesbrough and Redcar footprint.
The postholder will take delegated responsibility for the management of own caseload, including liaison with other professionals and agencies and where appropriate, the supervision, deployment and teaching of staff and students.
The postholder will work closely with the Respire nurse in the Hambleton and Richmondshire locality to share the training element of the caseload.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will complete audits, promote patient safety and high-quality care.
To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team by using professional judgement and assuming responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for patients to meet their needs in a safe caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy and respect.
The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge and skills within the speciality and will assist in the management and organisation of nursing duties across the Respire service within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. The post holder will support with the supervision of Staff nurses, health care assistants and support workers and support the training and assessment of student nurses. The CCN team work with the most complex children and young people in our community with the aim of limiting the impact of their complex health on their daily lives and preventing hospital admission. The post holder will work as part of the Community Childrens Nursing Team contributing to the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based care to children and young people, their families and their carers.

1. RSCN or RN (Child) with current NMC registration
Knowledge & Skills

2. An understanding of government and Trust documents/policies in relation to Childrens Nursing.
3. Ability to use initiative to decide within sphere of work and/or knowledge recognising where assistance is required.
4. A team player able to work well with others and demonstrate commitment to team objectives.
5. Understanding of child development.
6. Understanding of safeguarding procedures and can raise and action child protection concerns
7. Clinical knowledge of complex health needs and conditions
8. Knowledge of clinical care procedures for example, tracheostomies, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, complex neurodisability
9. Medicine management
Desirable criteria
10. Recognisable teaching certificate
11. PILS/PLS/APLS
12. Awareness of quality and audit indicators
13. Evidence of participation in audit/service improvement
Experience

14. Experience of working within an acute or community setting.
15. Highly developed specialist knowledge and competence, underpinned by theory and experience including the care of children and young people with tracheostomies and invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
