Summary Shaftesbury High School is a highly successful Pupil Referral Unit with a capacity for 125 pupils. We were deemed Good by Ofsted in October 2019 and remained Good in May 2025. The school is divided into ASPIRE and OASIS. Wage £12,955.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices Check minimum wage rates (opens in new tab) Term time only plus 5 insets Training course Teaching assistant (level 3) Hours Monday to Friday, shifts to be confirmed. 32 hours 30 minutes a week Start date Monday 1 September 2025 Duration 2 years Positions available 1 Work Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience. What you'll do at work Under the guidance of teachers and Early Years Practitioners, the apprentice will be involved in working with children to support the education, personal, social and emotional development of pupils. Establish positive relationships to assist in structured learning activities and free play. Duties may include, supporting learning activities, assisting in the development of skills that support pupils' learning and supporting children with additional needs. The apprentice will assist in pupil supervision and pupil progress and development. Build relationships with learners, teachers, other professionals and stakeholders. Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety. Support the well-being and mental health of learners. Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures. Apply methods of formative assessment. Use up to date technology safely, to support learning. Encourage safe use of technology by learners. Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning). Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners. Provide feedback to learners. Apply strategies to support and encourage the development of independent learners.
