The Targeted Youth Support team part of Lancashire County Council's, Children and Family Wellbeing Service is looking to recruit 2 part time. 1x 9hrs 3 evenings per week, 1x 6hrs 2 evenings per week Assistant youth support workers to work in the South of Lancashire, specifically in Chorley Districts, who are enthusiastic, organised and passionate about making a difference and changing young people’s lives. This post is evening work – usually between the times of 6:30-9:30pm across Three or 2 evenings. The Service is a key contributor to the prevention and early intervention/early help agenda for Lancashire County Council. It enables young people to succeed by providing high quality informal education opportunities to promote their personal and social development. It supports young people who are challenged in education, their communities or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.

The Youth Worker's role is to contribute to the delivery of youth work opportunities in our centres, partner buildings and out in the communities delivering street-based work. Youth Workers will report to a youth support worker or professional range youth worker and will work closely with other youth work staff and volunteers to maximise opportunities for young people to access social and personal development as well as learning opportunities. The main purpose of the role is to initiate and develop relationships with 12- to 19-year-olds and up to 25 year olds for young people with vulnerabilities. Working directly with targeted young people to enable them to broaden their horizons and involvement in positive activities. By designing and developing youth work responses underpinned by the 4 cornerstones of youth work, equality, participation, education and empowerment and delivery of the Youth Offer.

focuses on personal and social development – the skills and attributes of young people – rather than to ‘fix a problem’. It is an educational process that engages with young people in a curriculum that deepens a young person’s understanding of themselves, their community and the world in which they live and supports them to proactively bring about positive changes.

In Lancashire the Targeted Youth Support Team deliver core youth work, these are Detached/outreach working on the streets with young people, SEND working with young people 12-19 (up to 25 if SEN), safe spaces so offering a targeted youth club to meet the needs of the young people and the community. Youth voice we support this by having district youth councils, linked to Lancashire Youth Council, regional and national work. We also offer enhanced programmes such as LGTBQ+ groups or specific issued based groups, so mental health groups.

As part of the role, you will be required to undertake your level 2 youth work qualification, if you have not got one and you will be supported by Lancashire County council to complete this, in term of time to complete it and the cost of the course.
