We have the opportunity to recruit to a band 6 Deputy Sister /Charge Nurse in the Sexual and Reproductive Health department. We are part of the renowned Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, with three well-established community clinics.
The position will be full time working hours per week with the option to work compressed hours over four days.
This post is based within a well-established nursing team based across our three busy community sites in Lambeth and Southwark (Burrell Street Clinic, Minnie Kidd House and Walworth Road Clinic) which provide level-three Sexual and Reproductive Health services.
Clinically, we work with a diverse patient demographic providing a range of sexual and contraceptive services. Our service prides itself on it's well received staff development plan, enabling us to deliver safe and excellent care for our patients.

Main duties of the job
Joining our integrated service means that you will work dynamically, being supported to attain high levels of skills and knowledge and developing to the best of your ability as a Deputy Sister /Charge Nurse
You will be involved with the day to day running of our clinics, and managing your own cohort of symptomatic patients. We provide a full range of sexual and contraceptive services, including the provision of PrEP.
Our nurses are trained to take patient histories, carry out examinations, and diagnostics including microscopy, and managing treatments under Patient Group Directions where possible.
They will have significant clinical experience, provide sound clinical expertise to their team, and coordinate and deliver high quality care. They will be a role model for expert clinical care, and lead on specific projects / management functions as delegated by the Sister / Charge Nurse. They will role model the identified Trust values at all times.

The Deputy Sister/ Charge Nurse’s key responsibility are :

11. Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the ward/department.
12. To assist and support the Sister/Charge Nurse in the establishment of an efficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies and services.
13. In co-ordinating the day-to-day management of the clinical area, delegates duties and care appropriately, whilst maintaining overall responsibility.
14. Ensures that staffing and skill mix is maintained, at all times, to a level that does not compromise patient safety.
15. Responsible for the assessment and subsequent ordering of bank and
agency staff within the clinical area including being an authorised signatory for temporary staff
16. To be involved in the development, assessment and implementation of guidelines, protocols and pathways.
17. To deputise for the Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence.
18. To attend and participate in monthly departmental meetings and ward rounds in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse. To help to promote new ideas and methods for the delivery of care and assist in their implementation through liaison and co-operation with the multidisciplinary team.
19. To participate in the development of care pathways to promote uniformity of care.
20. To apply the Directorate and corporate Clinical Governance strategies to the clinical area.

Person specification
Professional Registration
Essential criteria
21. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
Experience
Essential criteria
22. Proven experience of managing a ward; including management of rotas managing competencies, resources and staff.
23. Experience of teaching/assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.
Desirable criteria
24. Experience of clinical supervision
Knowledge
Essential criteria
25. Awareness of clinical governance and risk management issues.
26. Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients/clients and give relevant advice/information to patients and relatives
27. An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice.
