Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking Dietitian to join the Dietetic Team at Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The post holder will work at the Southport & Ormskirk sites with the UGI Cancer Nurse Specialists and Team Lead for Dietetics to continue the OG Rapid Diagnostic Service (RDS) and implement the Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance Optimal Oesophago-Gastric Pathway. Ongoing development and improvement of this service will be expected. The successful candidate will have a specific interest in UGI dietetics, adult nutritional support and service/quality improvement, and will work as a specialist, autonomous dietitian. Acute care is provided at Southport and Formby and Ormskirk District General Hospital with A&E, ICU, and various medical/surgical specialties.


Responsibilities

* Accept clinical responsibility for a caseload of patients, using advanced knowledge and evidence-based, client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions across the acute wards.
* Provide specialist assessment and management advice for patients, working closely with the multidisciplinary team and other dietetic staff.
* Support the clinical lead in risk assessment for the dietetic team and coordinate, organise, assess, and deploy dietetic students on placements.
* Provide highly specialist assessment and management advice for patients, working with all members of the team; participate in planning, development, and delivery of dietetic services to adults with defined projects (e.g., risk assessment, documentation, and operational policies).
* Demonstrate advanced communication skills to motivate, develop, guide and advance dietetic skills required to deliver a high-quality, responsive team; provide training for dietetic students and supervise junior staff and students.
* Take part in extended working rotas as appropriate, which could include weekends and evenings; deputise for the team as needed.
* Support service development and improvements, and contribute to MDT working and the Continued development of the OG pathway and related governance.


Qualifications and Skills

* Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills; ability to work autonomously as a specialist dietitian.
* Experience or interest in UGI cancer, adult nutritional support, and service/quality improvement.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and participate in service development projects.
