Learning Support Assistant – SEN School
Are you passionate about helping children with additional needs achieve their full potential? We’re recruiting Learning Support Assistants for a well-respected SEN school in Pontefract that supports pupils aged 5–16 with autism, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with prior SEN experience, or a graduate from Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Education or related subjects who wants to gain hands-on school experience. If you live in Pontefract, Castleford, Wakefield, Normanton, or Featherstone, this role is perfectly placed for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with additional needs
2. Assisting with learning, behaviour support, and emotional regulation
3. Helping pupils develop life skills, confidence, and independence
4. Creating a safe, structured and engaging learning environment
5. Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and therapists to support EHCP outcomes
What We’re Looking For
6. Experience as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor or similar
7. An understanding of autism, SEMH, ADHD or learning disabilities
8. A calm, resilient and empathetic approach
9. Excellent communication and teamwork skills
10. Commitment to full-time, term-time work (Mon–Fri)
