Job Introduction
Join a forward‑thinking, patient‑centred team as a Consultant Paediatrician. Your expertise will shape the future of child health services in Wiltshire and Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES). The role involves specialist assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care for children, young people, and families, including those with neuro‑developmental difficulties and safeguarding needs. The position is part of the community paediatric department working closely with a multidisciplinary team.
Main Responsibilities
* Deliver community paediatric clinics, assessing children with concerns affecting health, development or educational potential, following established referral criteria, including medical assessments for the SEND process.
* Complete reports and administrative tasks within required time frames and statutory guidelines.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary assessment and management, collaborating with all team members for initial assessments and follow‑ups.
* Teach and supervise paediatric trainees and undergraduate medical students.
* Liaise with other health professionals to ensure coordinated management of assessments, treatment, and follow‑up.
* Participate in the safeguarding on‑call rota (8 am – 8 pm weekdays, 8 am – 5 pm weekends), providing information and engaging in strategy discussions.
Essential Qualifications
* UK recognised medical degree.
* Current full GMC registration.
* On the specialist register or within six months of obtaining CCT.
* Current work permit (if applicable).
* MRCPCH/MRCP or equivalent.
* 2 years of higher specialist training in community paediatrics or equivalent.
* Evidence of training in all aspects of child protection assessment, including level 3 training.
* Ability to participate in the child protection on‑call rota and complete child protection reports for police and social services.
* Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, including primary care and social care partners.
Desirable Qualifications
* CCT in community paediatrics or neuro‑disability.
* Specialist interest in paediatric neuro‑disability or another aspect of community child health.
* Advanced keyboard and IT skills.
* Formal teaching skills.
* Knowledge of Special Educational Needs procedures, health service responsibilities, and proposed changes to SEND.
* Published research or audit.
* Experience delivering training to other professionals.
* Experience providing child protection reports for the courts.
