Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer required to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. Experience with high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems is beneficial.
Within our Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate you will influence how we deliver our service and provide technical leadership to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and net zero carbon commitments. You will help manage and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems across assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites. You will also develop competency guidance for employees managing or working on electrical systems and equipment. A national incident response role may be required outside of normal hours.

The team provides technical standards, management and leadership across mechanical, electrical and control system activities.
Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards and electrical safety rules for electrical systems and equipment (HV and LV) within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for employees managing or carrying out work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Provide technical leadership and support to the organisation to deliver safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet net zero commitments.
* Contribute to the operation of the national incident response role as required, including out-of-hours work.
* Collaborate with MEICA Engineering Standards team to provide technical standards across mechanical, electrical and control system activities.
Experience/Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in the development and delivery of Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Experience in testing and isolation of HV/LV electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk-based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and the application of FMEA and reliability processes.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
Qualifications and Other Requirements
* UK Driving licence.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or active progress toward registration with a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role with a base location near your home. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within three weeks of the closing date. If you are on a reserve list, your details may be kept for 6 months and you may be offered an alternative post.
