Role Description
This is a freelance, on‑site Somali Interpreter role based in the Greater Sheffield Area. The Interpreter will facilitate communication between Somali‑speaking clients and English‑speaking professionals in settings such as healthcare, legal consultations, or community services. Responsibilities include providing accurate, confidential, and culturally sensitive interpretation, both consecutively and simultaneously, in one‑on‑one or group settings. The role requires flexibility to attend scheduled appointments across various locations within the Greater Sheffield Area.
Qualifications
* Proficient in Somali and English, with strong verbal communication skills in both languages.
* Proven interpretation skills, including consecutive and/or simultaneous interpreting experience.
* In‑depth understanding of Somali culture and sensitivity to cultural differences in communication.
* Knowledge of interpreting for healthcare, legal, or community services is an advantage.
* Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Flexibility to travel to appointment locations within the Greater Sheffield Area.
* Previous experience in interpreting or a related setting is preferred.
* Certification or relevant training in professional interpretation is an asset.
