SQL Data Engineer
Hybrid working
The successful candidate will have strong experience in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), data warehousing, and ETL development, with a proven ability to integrate data from multiple source systems into a unified enterprise data warehouse. You will work closely with Data Analysts, developers, subject matter experts, and business stakeholders throughout the analysis, development, testing, and implementation lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support analysis and design activities, including mapping source data to existing data models and contributing to the design of database schemas and SSIS packages.
- Redevelop and enhance ETL processes in line with technical standards to support data ingestion, transformation, and integration from multiple source systems.
- Develop and maintain complex T‑SQL scripts, stored procedures, and database objects to support data processing and analysis.
- Optimise ETL processes, queries, and database performance to ensure scalability, stability, and efficient handling of growing data volumes.
- Conduct testing and validation activities to ensure data accuracy, performance, and successful integration across systems.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve data quality, transformation, and integration issues.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including ETL processes, data mappings, requirements, and testing evidence.
- Collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of data warehousing initiatives.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Extensive hands‑on experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Microsoft SQL Server development.
- Strong expertise in T‑SQL programming, including stored procedures, query optimisation, and performance tuning.
- Experience scripting within SSIS using technologies such as PowerShell, C#, or Python.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, architectures, methodologies, and best practices.
- Solid knowledge of database design, indexing strategies, and query optimisation techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex data issues.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to data quality and accuracy.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience modernising or uplifting existing data warehouse environments.
- Experience of DB2
- Experience with WhereScape RED.
- Knowledge of additional database technologies and cloud‑based data platforms.
- Understanding of data modelling and data architecture principles.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and data quality best practices.
