Applications are invited for an MTI Trust Doctor post in Paediatrics at the Royal Surrey Hospital. This post is part of the AORMC MTI scheme and emphasizes high-quality paediatric training. Successful applicants must fully participate in training and assessment components.
The post duration is a maximum of 2 years starting from September 2025.
The paediatric department handles referrals for all paediatric emergencies, including abdominal pain, orbital/periorbital cellulitis, and head injuries. Other surgical, orthopaedic, ophthalmologic, ENT, and maxillofacial issues are referred to relevant departments. Children requiring intensive care are transferred out after stabilization. Most general surgery cases under 5 years are transferred to St. Georges Hospital.
The Special Care Baby Unit (Level 1) has 12 cots, including 4 HDU/ITU cots. It admits premature babies ≥ 31 weeks and ≥ 1250g. Babies smaller or younger are transported to nearby level 3 neonatal units like Ashford and St Peter’s.
The Child Development Centre shares premises with paediatric outpatient clinics, serving as the main outpatient facility.
The post-holder will work at SHO level (ST1-2) for the first 6 months, progressing to Registrar level (ST3-8). They will be part of the paediatric team, gaining diverse experience. Sub-specialty training options include Paediatric Allergy, Cardiology, Endocrinology/Diabetes, and Gastroenterology. Other DGH-level subspecialties are also considered. Support for CPD and study will be provided.
This role emphasizes medical training and education, offering a balanced mix of training and service, including unsocial hours and night shifts.
