Position Overview
We are seeking a Trainee Engineering Estimator to join our dynamic estimating team. You will receive structured training and mentoring to support the quoting and costing of complex, high-specification components across the aerospace, defence, and energy sectors, with clear opportunities for progression as your skills develop.
Key Responsibilities
With training and support, you will gradually take responsibility for the following:
* Assist in preparing detailed customer quotations based on CAD models, technical drawings, and specification requirements.
* Collaborate with suppliers and procurement to source accurate material and subcontractor costs.
* Work closely with the engineering, sales, and production teams to gather accurate technical and manufacturing data.
* Learn and apply aerospace and defence industry standards, specifications, and documentation requirements.
* Analyse costs related to finishing, materials, assembly and painting processes.
* Participate in regular team meetings to identify and resolve roadblocks, support team targets, and improve overall estimating efficiency
Experience & Qualifications:
* An interest in engineering, machining, or cost estimation, or relevant experience or education in an engineering or related technical field
* Strong numerical skills and written communication ability, to support estimating accuracy and professional correspondence
* Willingness to learn and develop technical and commercial knowledge
* Customer focus and commercial awareness
Desirable attributes
* Exposure to CAD drawings and/or CNC machining within an engineering or manufacturing environment
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage time and priorities effectively
* Ability to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* A genuine interest in learning how to interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD models
* A desire to develop knowledge of CNC machining processes within an engineering environment
* Willingness to build strong communication skills and work collaboratively as part of a team
* A methodical and well-organised approach to tasks, with the ability to follow instructions accurately and consistently
Training
* On-the-job training from the Estimating Manager
* Exposure to aerospace and defence standards and specifications
* Opportunities to progress to a fully autonomous Engineering Estimator role
Working Pattern
* Full Time (38 hours p/w) with flexible start/finish times and lunchtime finish on a Friday
