Job Description
As Assistant Transport Manager, you will be responsible for 24/7 Transport operations, managing the Transport Team, and supporting the Transport Manager to ensure costs are controlled within budget/forecast expectations.
Working hours: 4 on 4 off nights, 18:00-06:00
Key Duties of an Assistant Transport Manager:
* Manage the Depot Transport staff to execute Traffic plans for timely delivery within service levels.
* Reduce non-contract maintenance and damage costs through vehicle passports and daily spend confirmation.
* Ensure fleet is on the road and declared to assist planning.
* Motivate and develop the team via engagement, training, and personal development.
* Ensure staff are trained and equipped properly.
* Ensure compliance with statutes and regulations.
* Communicate with third-party hauliers regarding defect control on trailers.
* Approve maintenance cost reports and invoices.
* Ensure timely MOTs and service intervals for fleet.
* Monitor and audit suppliers.
* Attend monthly customer review meetings in the absence of the Transport Manager.
* Support department communication, including team briefings and KPI publication.
* Implement service improvements with customers and other departments.
* Drive continuous improvement ideas for staff and operations.
* Maintain a safe environment for staff.
* Manage the Transport Budget, including fuel and maintenance KPIs.
* Support initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, such as reducing road miles.
* Deputise for the Transport Manager when needed.
Qualifications
* Previous Transport Management experience.
* Experience in leading and motivating teams.
* Confident manager with clear objective setting skills.
* Leadership and team-building skills.
* Customer service focus, commercially aware.
* Problem-solving skills under pressure.
* National and International CPC qualification (desirable).
* Knowledge of transport operations, especially in shared environments.
* Supervisory experience in FMCG environments.
