About the Role
As our Careers Advisor, you will hold a pivotal role responsible for delivering high-quality careers guidance to pupils across the whole school. Beyond 1:1 support, you will be integral to informing the strategic direction of our Careers Education and Guidance programme, ensuring our students are fully equipped for the modern working world.
Responsibilities
- 1:1 & Group Guidance: Provide tailored advice to pupils on career planning, helping them identify options, recognise skills gaps, and overcome barriers to success.
- Employability Support: Guide students through crafting CVs, completing application forms, honing interview techniques, and navigating psychometric testing and careers software.
- Strategic Collaboration: Partner with the Careers Assistant Coordinator and Personal Development Leader to advise on subject choices, university/college entrance, and apprenticeships, while supporting the planning and delivery of PSHE careers lessons.
- Events & Networking: Help organise major school events, including Careers Fairs, Higher Education evenings, and Employer Insight days.
- Early Intervention: Actively identify potential NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) clients and formulate robust action plans alongside key stakeholders.
- Industry Expertise: Keep up to date with Labour Market Information (LMI), funding opportunities, and legislation; oversee a high-quality Careers and HE Reference Library.
- Compliance & Admin: Maintain up-to-date compliance documentation (including the school Careers Policy) and manage administrative tasks such as report writing and tracking student destinations.
Qualifications
- A recognised professional qualification in Career Guidance (e.g., Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development) is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage authentically with young people, parents, and external employers.
- Strong organisational abilities and proficiency in using digital careers tools, assessments, and software.
- Up-to-date knowledge of the Gatsby Benchmarks, modern qualifications pathways, and the South Yorkshire labour market.
