Job title: QToD – Qualified Teacher of D/deaf Children and Young People, Specialist Teaching Service (STS)

Full‑time and part‑time permanent positions available for hybrid roles.

MPS‑UPS available for experienced candidates (+2 SEN Points) | £37,101 – £51,048 (+£2,787 – £5,497).

Lancashire County Council is seeking to appoint 5 Qualified Teacher of d/Deaf babies, children and young people to join their growing Inclusion team within the Specialist Teaching Service (STS). The successful candidates will work across Lancashire supporting children and young people who are hearing impaired.

The STS is a Local Authority peripatetic visiting teaching service that supports nurseries, schools and colleges to meet the needs of children and young people with special educational needs (SEN). The QToD team consists of highly qualified and experienced Specialist Teachers, a Deaf Role Model and Sensory Technicians. We work closely with parents/carers, families, audiology, national deaf children's society and other professionals to support children and young people in a range of settings including at home, early years providers, in schools and colleges. We work across all age ranges from birth to college aged pupils.


The role will consist of:

* Supporting d/Deaf and hearing‑impaired babies, children and young people within a range of settings, schools and colleges.
* Travelling across Lancashire to provide support, guidance, assessments and teaching opportunities to individuals and small groups.
* Working in collaboration with parents/carers, families, educational settings and other agencies to meet children's individual needs.
* Signposting when appropriate.
* Delivering training material when necessary.
* Identifying and assessing needs and contributing towards setting outcomes for pupils.
* Managing a caseload effectively.
* Using ICT effectively to teach and for maintaining records accurately.
* Participating in professional development opportunities, sharing new learning and experiences with colleagues and contributing to the development of the service.


We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People who will contribute to the key work of the Specialist Teaching Service by:

* Being committed to an inclusive approach to education, demonstrating a strong moral SEND value with the vision and determination to make a difference.
* Being accountable for improving outcomes for all children and young people and showing evidence of experience of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs.
* Ensuring you uphold a professional high‑quality educational experience that meets identified needs.
* Advocating for children identified with a hearing loss, and working collaboratively with their families, nurseries, schools and colleges.
* Being able to provide challenge and support to schools, establishing clear actions for all partners, and evaluating the progress being made against these.
* Confidently modelling teaching approaches to setting and school staff and actively promoting and raising standards for children with SEND.
* Being a fully qualified Teacher of D/deaf children and young people (QToD).
* These posts are not suitable for Early Years Career teachers.
* Lancashire County Council will consider applications from candidates who have not yet fully completed the 2‑year mandatory Teacher of the Deaf qualification.
* Requests for part‑time hours will also be considered.

Part‑time hours, please note the salary quoted is full‑time equivalent; the salary received will be paid on a pro‑rata basis.
