We are seeking a caring and committed Social Work Assistant to support children in care in Durham. This role involves working closely with children, families, carers, and social workers to promote safe family contact, support children's emotional wellbeing, and help maintain stable home environments. Key Responsibilities Supervise family time between children in care and their family members. Transport children safely to and from family time sessions. Follow agreed safety plans to ensure children are protected from harm during contact. Create life story books to help children understand their life experiences and personal journeys. Complete Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQs) with caregivers to support understanding of children's emotional needs. Carry out specific pieces of direct work with children or carers to support stability and maintain home life. Maintain accurate records and provide feedback to the social work team. Key Requirements Experience working with children, young people, or families. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles. Ability to build positive, professional relationships with children and families. Good written and verbal communication skills. Organised and able to manage time effectively.
