Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT)
We are looking for a Band 6 SLT to join our West Hertfordshire team across mainstream schools, specialist settings, and community clinics. The role supports children and young people aged 0‑18 with a wide range of communication needs.
Main duties of the job
As a Band 6 SLT, you will:
* Provide specialist assessment and intervention for CYP with speech, language and communication needs
* Work collaboratively with a range of professionals – SLT Assistants, Educational Psychologists, SENCOs and teaching assistants
* Contribute to staff development through supervision
* Be part of a highly skilled, friendly and values‑driven team

HCT provides integrated Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services across Hertfordshire, jointly commissioned by health and education. We work with partners in education to deliver interventions at Universal, Targeted and Specialist levels.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Recognised SLT degree or equivalent (Post‑Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy) leading to HCPC registration
* HCPC Licence to Practice
* Fully Registered member of RCSLT
* Post‑graduate training in area of work, internal or external
Clinical knowledge and experience
* Experience working with children with speech, language and communication needs – describing assessments and interventions used and how approaches are tailored
* Prioritisation and management of a varied caseload across settings – including tools or strategies employed
* Understanding of current health and education policies impacting service delivery
* Experience training parents/carers/teachers or other professionals – methods used to ensure effectiveness and accessibility
Skills and abilities
* Experience supervising, supporting or mentoring others such as SLT students, SLT Assistants or peers
* Ensuring appropriate clinical decisions within practice
* Demonstrated example of HCT’s values – Caring, Innovative, Agile
* Communication skills used in daily work
* Example of collaborative work within MDT contributing to shared goals or plans

* Full, valid UK driving licence and access to a car for business use (unless qualified as a disability under the Equality Act 2010)

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
Salary
£39,959 to £48,117 per annum pro rata. In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £1,935 and a maximum payment of £2,198 per annum, pro rata.
Essential requirements: full valid driving licence and access to a car for business purposes unless a disability qualifies under the Equality Act 2010.
