Consultant in Clinical Oncology. Less than full time post, 9.875 PAs. From £109,725 p.a. Commencing as soon as possible. Contract Length: Substantive.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced clinician with a specialist interest in Urological and Prostate Cancers. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of established consultants. The service is led by the Clinical Director for Oncology and Deputy Clinical Director for Clinical Oncology.
This Consultant post comprises 9.875 Programmed Activities (PAs) and is focused on supporting the Urological and Prostate Oncology Services at GSTT, KCH and LGT. Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a Licence to Practise, and be listed on the Specialist Register with CCT in Oncology – or within 6 months of attaining CCT by the date of interview. A Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) or equivalent is essential, along with broad experience in Clinical Oncology, including systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiotherapy. A research degree is highly desirable.

Clinical:
The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Clinical Oncology services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:
* Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
* Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for proper delegation to and training of staff.
* Domiciliary consultations as required from time to time.
* The diagnosis and treatment of patients occupying accommodation made available under relevant NHS Acts, in so far as such patients have not made private arrangements for treatment.
The post holder will be working in joint-clinic settings and will be supported by other oncologists in the MDT. Inpatient care of clinical oncology patients is delivered by a ward attending rota system shared by all clinical oncology consultants, translating to approximately 2 ward cover weeks per year during which routine work is cancelled.
Teaching: All consultants are expected to take part in undergraduate teaching during their normal clinical work. Additional teaching responsibilities will have time allocated in the job plan.
Training: All consultants will be expected to contribute to the training and support of doctors in training, including the role of Educational Supervisor in the educational contracts for junior staff in the specialty.
Research: Clinical trial activity and clinical research are a key element of the work of a clinical oncology consultant and consultants will be expected to undertake this activity as agreed with their clinical director.
Clinical Governance: All consultants are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, guideline and protocol development, and clinical risk management.
Clinical Management: All consultants are expected to contribute to the management and development of their clinical service.
Other: The list of duties and responsibilities above is not exhaustive; the post holder may be asked to undertake other duties as required by the clinical director.
