About the role
The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality output, and adherence to safety standards. This role involves managing staff, maintaining equipment, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Working location: BYD’s Reading site, RG2 0TG
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan, organize, and supervise all workshop activities
* Manage and lead a team of technicians, mechanics, or tradespeople
* Allocate tasks and monitor productivity and performance
* Ensure all work is completed to required quality standards
* Maintain workshop equipment, tools, and machinery
* Implement and enforce health and safety procedures
* Monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering of materials and parts
* Liaise with clients, suppliers, and other departments
* Prepare reports on operations, performance, and costs
* Troubleshoot technical issues and provide hands-on support when required
Your profile:
* Proven experience in a workshop or technical environment
* Previous supervisory or management experience
* Strong leadership and team management skills
* Good technical knowledge relevant to the industry (e.g., automotive, engineering, manufacturing)
* Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
* Familiarity with health and safety regulations
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Basic computer skills (e.g., inventory or job tracking systems)
* Forklift license (desirable but not always required)
* Right to work in the UK
