At Seasalt, we live and breathe our product and are proud of the exceptional quality and care we put into design and sourcing, delivering beautiful garments loved by our customers. Based on the Cornish coast, we're a B Corp multi-channel lifestyle brand with over 75 shops across the UK, Ireland, and the USA, over 400 wholesale stockists, and a growing online business.
As part of our womenswear Design team, you will create considered, elegant, and commercially successful collections that align with Seasalt’s modern yet timeless aesthetic. Your understanding of effortless sophistication, functional yet refined design, and balancing creativity, commercial awareness, and sustainable innovation will craft products made for a life worn well.
Please note this is a 12-month fixed-term role, primarily based in our Falmouth head office (typically three days per week) with occasional remote working. A 5% relocation allowance is available to candidates outside of Cornwall.
You'll help us by:
* Developing seasonal collections that embody a refined, intelligent, and wearable aesthetic in line with the brand’s handwriting.
* Translating mood boards, cultural influences, and trend research into clear, cohesive ideas, producing elevated, contemporary multi-category designs, focusing on jersey, and leveraging supplier relationships where possible.
* Designing for multiple categories with awareness of fabric, fit, drape, silhouette, and proportion to ensure effortless wearability, reflecting the brand’s signature aesthetic.
* Sourcing and developing premium, sustainable, and profitable fabrics, textures, and finishes that align with the brand’s ethos of quality and longevity.
* Exploring innovative techniques to reduce waste, optimize material usage, and enhance circularity.
* Creating technical drawings, design packs, and specifications for development samples, working directly with suppliers.
* Collaborating with the supply base to refine design, fit, proportion, and detailing, with a seamless handover to Technical teams.
* Leading fittings and development sampling to ensure garments meet high standards of design, quality, and craftsmanship.
* Partnering with Design, Buying, and Merchandising teams to balance creativity with commerciality, ensuring a cohesive visual narrative for campaigns.
* Presenting and articulating design concepts to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with brand vision, including branding considerations where appropriate.
* Communicating clearly with suppliers and internal teams to ensure smooth workflow and problem-solving.
* Managing and developing high-performing Assistants, fostering creative excellence, clear ideas, and effective decision-making.
The skills you'll share with the team:
* Design-related degree or qualification
* Experience in a fashion retail design role
* Strong technical design skills, including construction, trend forecasting, and realization of designs in 2D and 3D
* Creative flair aligned with Seasalt’s aesthetic
* Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
* Keen eye for detail and color
* Ability to motivate, coach, and support team members
* Experience overseeing day-to-day operations and working to critical paths
* Excellent communication skills
* Proactive, growth mindset, open to feedback and self-development
