Role responsibilities
The Lead Application Operations Engineer leads the operational management, optimisation and continuous improvement of critical corporate applications, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and CRM, which underpin Transport for Wales’s financial and operational decision-making. Acting as the service owner, this role ensures availability, security and performance of enterprise-wide applications used by over 5,000 staff, directly contributing to business continuity and regulatory compliance. The role aligns with the UK Government DDaT framework for Lead Application Operations Engineer.
1. Support senior project managers, programme, and test manager with developing and agreeing deployment plans for both hardware and software releases
2. Co-ordinate and manage relationships with 3rdparty suppliers and internal TfW Teams
3. Work with the Project team, test manager and partners to execute test activities on site ensuring all new software, systems, and new hardware components (., new Gate lines, Platform Validators, PAYG and Retail Ticketing Solutions) have been quality assessed to the level required by the Test Plan, and capture all results appropriately, to ensure that new systems are launched successfully.
4. Present critical information to influence Go / No go decisions
5. Representative for TfW for onsite meetings in the design and deployment phases with 3rdparty suppliers and internal TfW teams
Who we’re looking for
6. Degree in IT or equivalent experience.
7. Proven experience supporting ERP systems and managing application operations.
8. Understanding of finance systems and business processes.
9. Experience in incident, problem, and change management.
10. Ability to lead technical teams and manage third-party vendors.
11. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Welsh Language Skills
The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
