The College has a strong sense of community, the new academic year will see the current Deputy Principal progressing to the role of Principal, enabling the College the opportunity to build on its strong foundations of leadership while looking ahead to the new phase of our development. This is therefore an exciting time to join the friendly and supportive Vocational Business Department team and be part of the College community.
Applications from ECTs and Teachers in Schools and Sixth Form College sectors are welcome. A full mentoring programme is provided to introduce all new staff to sixth form college systems and procedures and to support and encourage professional development. We are looking for an exceptional candidate to join the team and inspire our students. We expect high performance from all our staff and candidates should demonstrate their ability and suitability to both the role and the culture of the College. After reviewing the job description, we strongly encourage candidates to explore our website to gain a deeper understanding of the College’s culture, values, and aspirations.
Department and Programs
The Vocational Business Department offers the Level 2 Business Award and Certificate (OCR) and Level 3 Business (Pearson), equivalent to one or 2 A Levels. The Department is located on the first floor of the main College building, has a dedicated department workroom, and consists of a Head of Department plus 5 teaching staff. Most teaching staff at the College are tutors and there is dedicated tutor group time each week with a pastoral programme, overseen by the Heads of Year team.
The department hosts a range of extra-curricular activities such as trips to Thorpe Park and Disneyland Paris, as well as visits to universities and involvement with Young Enterprise. The department has also enjoyed success in a number of external competitions including Bank of England Target 2.0, the Stock Market Challenge held by Reading University and the Marketing Challenge held by Surrey County Council.
Our students value the support the department offers, including regular study support workshops and Easter revision, as well as external activities such as the forthcoming Lloyds Employability Skills Builder. A significant number of our students continue to study business-related courses at university. Students have been recently involved in a Dragons Den-style forum - pitching their ideas to local industry; and the Accumulator Challenge - raising funds for the local hospice. Former alumni have returned to share their insights into securing apprenticeships at Grant Thornton and Deloitte, and the department arranged a visit to the University of Portsmouth to raise aspirations regarding next steps in education and career pathways.
