Overview
An established and highly regarded UK construction company is seeking an experienced Environmental & Sustainability Coordinator (BREEAM-focused) to support the delivery of environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and ESG performance across a diverse portfolio of construction projects.
This Cardiff-based role offers the opportunity to act as the central point of coordination for BREEAM delivery, working across projects from design stage through to post-construction, while also supporting wider environmental management and sustainability objectives.
Key Responsibilities
BREEAM Coordination & Delivery
1. Lead and coordinate BREEAM delivery across multiple construction projects
2. Manage, review, and submit BREEAM evidence to appointed Assessors
3. Work closely with design teams, consultants, and project stakeholders to achieve targeted ratings
4. Track BREEAM credits, risks, and responsibilities throughout project lifecycles
5. Maintain structured, auditable records and evidence files
6. Conduct site inspections to ensure BREEAM compliance and environmental best practice
Construction Environmental Management
7. Support delivery of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)
8. Ensure compliance with planning conditions, environmental permits, and legislation
9. Carry out site audits and environmental inspections
10. Liaise with regulatory bodies and stakeholders as required
11. Support ongoing development and compliance of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
Sustainability & ESG
12. Contribute to the company’s Environmental & Sustainability Strategy
13. Support initiatives around:
14. Carbon reduction and net zero targets
15. Waste minimisation and resource efficiency
16. Sustainable materials and procurement
17. Assist with ESG data collection, monitoring, and reporting
18. Track and report on environmental KPIs to senior leadership
Training & Continuous Improvement
19. Provide guidance to project teams on BREEAM, sustainability, and environmental compliance
20. Support environmental training and awareness initiatives
21. Stay up to date with BREEAM standards, environmental legislation, and industry best practice
Requirements
Essential
22. Proven experience delivering BREEAM projects from Design Stage through to Post Construction
23. Background within Main Contractor, Subcontractor, or Construction Consultancy
24. Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or similar (or 3+ years relevant experience)
25. Strong understanding of construction environmental processes and site-based delivery
26. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
27. Ability to interpret technical documentation and drawings
28. Strong communication skills with the ability to engage multiple stakeholders
Desirable (Training Supported)
29. IEMA membership (or working towards)
30. BREEAM AP accreditation (Site and/or Design)
31. Experience delivering BREEAM Very Good / Excellent ratings
