NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) collects around 2 million units of blood and tissues a year, converting them into safe and effective blood components, blood and tissue products for use in the treatments of patients. Join our Newcastle Red Cell Immunohaematology department and you'll support NHSBT in training staff to utilize advanced red cell immunohaematology techniques, providing reference services and blood provision services to hospitals.

Main duties of the job
* Demonstrate advanced knowledge and expertise in transfusion and diagnostic investigations and be able to utilise knowledge to train personnel to perform, analyse, interpret, document, and report both routine and complex testing in line with accreditation and regulatory requirements.
* Work at the level of a Biomedical Scientist Advanced Specialist, for a sufficient proportion of the role, performing advanced investigations to maintain competency in all relevant RCI processes.
* Participate in national laboratory training initiatives, such as cohort training programmes, and be willing to regularly travel to provide training and support at other RCI sites.
* Lead the design, development, and delivery of scientific training programmes that maintain and improve scientific knowledge and skills across the RCI function, supporting both local and national laboratory needs.
* Lead on competency assessments, coaching and mentoring for RCI.
* Develop and deliver accessible education and training platforms for RCI.
* Assess staff learning and provide formative feedback.
Travel and Working Hours
You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Person Specification
Qualifications – Essential
* Holds professional registration/fellowship within a relevant subject specialism e.g. HCPC, FIBMS.
* MSc or equivalent in transfusion / transplantation or relevant science OR Equivalent specialist knowledge gained by examination of a professional body e.g. FIBMS or Diploma from BBTS or BSHI.
* Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
Experience – Essential
* Proven postgraduate knowledge and skills and be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. Experience in Transfusion/Transplantation Science, with a focus on blood group serology.
* Proven experience working in a service provider role showing commitment to the highest level of customer care.
* Ability to develop, deliver, assess, and internally evaluate learning programmes to meet customer need.
* Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
