As an Operational Technology (OT) Cyber Security Analyst you will join our automation and software engineering team. This role embeds itself within engineering, working side‑by‑side with the people who design, build, and support our control systems and automation platforms.
You'll play a key role in making sure cyber security is built into OT systems from the start - not bolted on later. The focus is on practical, proportionate security that protects safety, availability, and reliability while still enabling delivery and innovation.
You will report to the Software Development Manager and be located at Springfields Fuels Ltd near Preston. The role might be considered as hybrid type of role.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work with automation and software engineers to integrate cyber security into the design, development, deployment, and support of OT systems.
2. Identify and assess cyber security risks across industrial control systems, networks, and supporting infrastructure.
3. Design and advise on security controls that are practical, maintainable, and aligned with operational needs.
4. Support compliance with relevant standards and regulations ( IEC 62443, NIS, ISO 27001 where applicable).
5. Review architectures, drawings, and technical designs from a cyber security perspective.
6. Help investigate and respond to OT cyber security incidents or vulnerabilities.
7. Contribute to secure operating procedures, guidance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Experience:
8. Experience in OT or industrial control system environments ( PLCs, SCADA, DCS, industrial networks).
9. A understanding of cyber security principles and how they apply in safety and availabilitycritical systems.
10. The ability to work collaboratively with engineers and explain security risks and controls in plain language.
11. Experience with risk assessment, threat modelling, or security reviews in OT environments
12. Familiarity with relevant standards, frameworks, or legislation affecting OT security.
13. A foundational understanding of cyber security principles ( confidentiality, integrity, availability, defenceindepth).
14. An interest in OT, industrial control systems, or how cyber security applies in physical and safetycritical environments.
Desirable Experience:
15. Experience working in regulated or safetycritical industries.
16. Knowledge of secure network architecture for OT environments.
17. Exposure to vulnerability management, incident response, or assurance activities.
18. Familiarity with OT technologies ( PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, industrial networks).
Qualifications:
19. A degree in a relevant subject such as: Cyber Security; Computer Science; Electrical, Electronic, or Control Systems Engineering.
20. Desirable: Relevant certifications ( IEC 62443 or similar)
