Teaching at Cardinal Newman College
We timetable to staff strengths. Full-time staff typically teach 4 classes plus Curriculum Plus (one-to-one and small group support, revision sessions, etc.). The timetable for 25/26 allows homeworking on most Wednesdays between September and March; from March, Wednesdays focus on on-site revision and exam preparation. Where possible, we offer flexible on-site times and adjust FTE as needed. We typically have a week and a half off during October half term and break up for Summer earlier than many colleges. A pastoral team supports tutors, and teaching staff do not take on form tutor duties.
We introduced a teaching spine in 2016 with incremental rises tied to performance, and no increments were withheld in 23/24. We aim to support staff successes and avoid withholding rises where possible.
