Pertemps Professional Recruitment is currently seeking an Interim Assistant Director of Education and Learning for a local authority based in Merseyside. This is a senior leadership opportunity within local government, responsible for shaping strategic direction, ensuring statutory compliance, and overseeing operational delivery across education, SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), inclusion, and learning services. The successful candidate will lead on driving school improvement, strengthening safeguarding across education settings, and delivering high-quality, inclusive outcomes for children and young people. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and delivery of the council’s vision for Education, Learning, Inclusion, and School Improvement, reporting directly to the Director of Children’s Services. Statutory Responsibilities: Ensure the effective delivery of all statutory duties relating to education, SEND, early years provision, school attendance, and admissions. Performance & Financial Management: Oversee large and complex budgets while driving service performance and continuous improvement, with a focus on achieving strong Ofsted outcomes. Partnership Working: Build and maintain effective partnerships with schools, health services, social care teams, and parents to support an integrated approach to education and children’s services. We are looking for an experienced leader who can provide clear, confident, and collaborative leadership across early years, school improvement, SEND and inclusion, post-16 pathways, attendance, the Virtual School, and safeguarding in education.
